Classes for the first semester of ’25-‘26

Class names and descriptions below.

We are dedicated to giving all of our students the opportunity to explore performing arts. The arts are one of the most rewarding ways for students to learn about the world around them as well as their place in the world. Through the arts they will find creativity, critical thinking skills, and self confidence. These are vital aspects of learning and growth for students in many ways. Creativity allows them to think and perform uniquely and in ways that only they can. Critical thinking places the control in the hands of students giving them the ability to make their own choices and see where it will take them. Confidence encourages students to delve into various situations, to make their own decisions, and allows them to see the outcome of the choices that they make. All of these aspects come together and empower students while they grow and mature in preparation for their future. The arts can be an incredible springboard for improvement in other activities as well. Tap dancers learn to kick harder, articulate their feet in highly precise ways, and overall move faster and with more fluidity…all of which is beneficial for soccer players, hockey players, and football players. Students can learn valuable approaches to other activities they are involved in without having to choose just one. Ballet and basketball. Tap and soccer. No need to “give up” any other activities!

Why pick one? “YOU CAN DO BOTH!"

Tap shoes- flexible, split sole shoes are recommended- will be required and can be purchased at reasonable costs online through eBay, Amazon, or even Walmart. If purchasing taps for girls, please purchase those either without or have very short heels. There is a bit of time that must be taken to learn how to ensure proper foot placement and heels makes this more difficult for beginning students. This class offers much, much more than “just dancing”. If your child plays sports such as soccer, basketball, football, et cetera, then they can greatly benefit from this style of movement. It’s all about being fast, being nimble, and being able to strike the floor with strength and precision. As movements are being taught, the student will also learn what muscles are being used, how the move translates to other sports, and how the move can directly help them to succeed with the class but also while on the playing field of their sport. Throughout the semester students and instructor will create a “list” of the famous people- athletes, actors, et cetera- who took this style of dance class and used it in their choice of sport. Many of those people will have also taken ballet classes. Although ballet classes are typically more attended by athletes. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jordan, Muhammed Ali all took dance classes! This class will teach students the basics of this percussive type of dance. Tap dance is a highly energetic style of dance that is about making music with the feet and understanding how to do so. Students will learn: The History of Tap and some of the most notable tap dancers such as Gregory Hines, Fred Astaire, and even today's viral siblings Gardiner Brothers. Music theory- rhythm, tempo, counting. They will begin to learn the written language of tap dance and how this language helps to memorize. And, highly important for a percussive dancer, the beginnings of how to improvise on the fly.

$160/semester

How to safely and properly stretch and engage the muscles required for dance steps and movement. And, the importance of posture, balance, placement of the body weight relative to the feet, and more. Students will learn in depth technique, will be doing barre work, as well as floor work- floor work will cover how to properly focus on balance, posture, and such.

Introducing All New Classes & Upcoming Workshops

Youth Readers' Theatre- Students will learn all of the elements of acting and being on stage without the pressure of memorization of scripts. We have an active Readers’ Theatre group in our Playmakers ◄Theatre►, and recently we had a small Readers’ performance for the Performance Bound class. The students did a wonderful job for never having done this style of theatre, so we are bringing it to other students as well. The actors in a Readers’ performance actually have their scripts in hand which they can reference as needed during the performance. There is minimal need for rehearsals as well. It is a wonderful format that provides those who want to perform the ability to do so without compromising other activities. And it will allow students the opportunity to perform for audiences whether it be on the stage in a Playmakers production or other venues around the area.

All Around Art- A class for home schooled students, grade levels from 4th to 8th grade, and their parents/guardians. They will explore the arts together, learn myriad forms of art such as folk dancing, design, visual art creation, and delve into theatre throughout history. Each week will offer a new look at the arts from a different perspective. Students will experience the arts in many forms and may find a style of art they never knew they wanted to learn.

Up Your Game” With Dance- If interested in a class that will teach sports players the basics of dance and movement which prevent injury, increase muscle control, and improve footwork just like many professional players of football, basketball, soccer, Please Call 918-786-8950 for more information. These classes are taught with sports as the main goal and give students the knowledge about how movements in dance translate from the classroom directly to the game field or court.

It is strongly recommended to contact us and indicate intent to sign up in order to ensure class placement. If there aren't enough students signed up, the class may not "make." Famous Athletes and their “secret to success”

????

Want to be the best athlete on your sports team? We can teach you the secrets to getting that touchdown faster, and dunking that basketball easier. Getting that soccer ball into the net, dodging other players, and doing it all in style.

What do Herschel Walker, Steve McLendon, Barry Sanders, and Wayne Gretzky have in common…other than all being world famous athletes? What about Evander Holyfield, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ryan Gosling, Patrick Swayze, Christian Bale, and Jean-Claude Van Damme?

Each of these famous athletes and actors can tell you all about their secret to success! And, we can teach you the secret. So, set aside the basketball, put down your baseball bat, and don’t pull on those football pads just yet. Here is the key to opening the door on this secret!

That’s right. All of these athletes took dance classes. Ballet, tap, jazz… you name it, they took it. And, most will credit these classes to be one of the most important aspects of their success. Dance offers many benefits for athletes, and many of the benefits are evident within a few classes. What benefits can an athlete expect to find inside a dance studio? Improvement of balance and coordination, an increase in range of motion and stability, intensification of stamina and flexibility. The biggest, and arguably, the best benefit is one that has a tendency to go completely overlooked— Dance can reduce the likelihood of injury. All of these things put together will see an athlete move faster, jump easier, and have the upper hand overall against opposing players. Don’t believe us? Come down and attend a class- no charge- and find out why the world’s top athletes believe that dance has given them a better and longer lasting career.
